Alliance For Change Leader, Raphael Trotman, has again called on the relevant authorities to restore Investiture Ceremonies after a seven-year hiatus in Guyana.
Trotman made the appeal recent in the National Assembly conceding that whilst there have been some national awards bestowed in isolated instances, “no self-respecting country can maintain a wholesome and cohesive society without having a system of meritocracy that recognizes the efforts of our good sons and daughters…Restore the awards.”
Trotman, in a previous appeal, had written to the president on the absence of the announcement of National Awards and Honours for the past six years.
“As Chancellor of the Orders of Guyana, you are undoubtedly aware that a system of recognising and honouring the outstanding contributions of citizens is a fundamental feature of a well organised society.”
Trotman made mention of the fact that in Guyana, the people anxiously look forward to the honours being bestowed on a scheduled basis.
“The inexplicable absence of an Investiture Ceremony has been the subject of continuous conjecture and debate.”
