The Guyana Horse racing Authority has elected a new body to serve the organisation for the next 12 months when the body held its Annual General meeting recently at the Norman Singh Turf Club Silver Park, West Coast Berbice.
The president is Khemraj Rai while the Vice President is Roopnarine Matadial. The Secretary is Quacy Henry; the Treasurer remains Francis Chichester, while Patrick Davis will serve as the assistant Secretary.
The six active racing clubs make up the organisation with each club having one person being named as a representative on the body. The six clubs and their representatives are Kennard Memorial Turf Club at Bush Lot Farm on the Corentyne Coast with Roopnarine Matadial, The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club at Alness On the Corentyne will be represented by Bobby Vaughn, Port Mourant Turf situated at Port Mourant also on the Corentyne Coast has named Chris Jagdeo as their representative.
Over the river on the West Coast of Berbice the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at Bel Air No6 West Coast Berbice will have Campton Sancho as their designated representative. The Rising Sun Turf Club has named Fazal Habibulla has its point man while the lone Racing club in Demerara the Anjue and Hamlet Turf Club situated at Mahaicony Branch road will have Amernauth Kirtipaul taking care of business.
The organisation has also named five Stewards that will be in charge of conducting racing activities at the various venues; they are Francis Chichester, who is the Chief Steward while the others are Bobby Vaughn, Patrick Davis and Mark Lyte.
Four classifiers who will decide the category or class that the respective horses will run in have also been named, they are Senior Council Marcel Crawford, Colin Elcock, Roopnarine Matadial and Fazal Habibulla.
Two Veterinary officers who will be tasked with assessing the health of the animals have also been named on the body. They are Doctor Thomas Richmond and Doctor Dwight Walrond. The new executive’s plan to meet as often as possible and be vigilant as it tries to promote the sport further in 2010.
