The Mayor and City Council wishes to take this opportunity to wish all Guyanese joyous Phagwah greetings.
During this period, Guyanese, particularly of the Hindu Community, will celebrate this auspicious occasion with singing, dancing and deep devotion. Many will indulge themselves in sprinkling of powders and the use of other colourful materials to show the meaning of the occasion.
It is significant to note that the various bright colours used during this celebration could be deemed to symbolise the diversity, which comprises our society. Yet in this diversity of cultures, traditions, religions and believes, we must all strive continually for unity. Indeed, it is only in unity we can truly achieve triumph of good over evil.
Therefore, the Mayor and City Council urges all Guyanese to reflect upon this truth and to contemplate ways of using this occasion to build stronger neighbourhoods and local communities. It is the community that gives the individual a sense of stability, belonging and responsibility. It is the community that shapes an individual’s reality of the world. Therefore, communities are fundamental to the general development of the society. In celebrating let us also unite, embracing our diversity, for stronger communities.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
