A man who was trying to smuggle marijuana into the prison is currently in police custody and charges are likely.
Reports are that the man was at the time taking items for a relative who is an inmate at the Camp Street Prison.
Sources told this newspaper that a prison officer was checking the item when marijuana was found hidden in a tennis roll.
After the man realised that the prison officer had found the marijuana he decided to run.
However after a chase he was caught and taken into custody.
This incident sparked rumours of an attempted prison escape after persons saw the man fleeing the prison compound with officers in hot pursuit. The situation was nevertheless quickly brought under control.
Over recent times persons, including inmates, have been using innovative ways to smuggle cigarettes, marijuana and other illicit drugs, cellular phones and improvised weapons into prison. This has caused some concern for prison officials.
However, despite their efforts, persons still find ways of beating the systems put in place by the authorities.
