GDF all-rounder Travis Blyden registered the first century in this year’s 50-over Championship League here in Trinidad with a shot-filled 110 with 9 fours and 3 sixes for Rousillac United against hosts Woodland Cricket Team over the weekend.
Blyden also turned in a useful all-round showing the next day as fellow Guyanese Elton Baker of GNIC smashed 6 fours in a top score 60 in a losing cause for Rousillac United against T&TEC at the Couva ground.
T&TEC batted made 269 for 9 in 50 overs with Blyden taking three for 47 with his leg-spin.
Rousillac United were then bowled out for 172 in 41.2 overs despite Bakers attractive half-century and a cameo 37 with 6 fours from Blyden as Rousillac lost by 92 runs.
Blyden, who says he is hoping to make the Demerara team for the 20/20 and 50-overs Inter-County competitions later this year, was also in fine form in the two-day format scoring 103 in the League Competition against Villance Cricket Club in a drawn game.
Meanwhile, Guyanese First Class opener Shemroy Barrington scored 67 for his Trinidad club last Sunday while former Guyana under-19 batsman Anthony D’Andrade, who plays for Bermine in Berbice, will play his biggest game on Friday when he represents the Vice Chancellors X1 against Zimbabwe at the UWI ground in Augustine.
The right-handed D’Andrade, who was one of the standby players for this year’s CCC team, plays for the University of Trinidad and Tobago where he is studying.
Several Guyanese, including former West Indies under-19 Skipper Steven Jacobs, ex-First Class wicketkeeper batsman Robin Browne, ex Guyana under-19 Deonauth Baksh and former Berbice senior team all-rounder Luke Latiff are playing at various levels here in Trinidad.
