The Committee set up to ensure the smooth delivery of the Guyana leg of the 2010 CFU Women’s World Cup qualifying Phase met on Thursday, at the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Headquarters.
Present at the round-table were Secretary – Kirk Douglas and members Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, Aubrey Henry, Lawrence Griffith, Dwayne Lovell and Rawle Welch, while GFF President Colin Klass sat briefly in an advisory capacity.
During the Meeting, members who were assigned various responsibilities reported to Douglas on the current state of affairs related to their specific tasks and from all indications Guyana’s preparations appears to be right on track. It was disclosed that currently the two players who hail from Lethem are encamped and have been training with those based in Georgetown under the guidance of Coach Wayne Dover daily, while approval was given to add another player residing in Jamaica, but who expressed a desire to attend a tryout session in view of selection, pending a report from the Dover.
The accommodation issues for the visiting contingents were discussed and confirmed, while travel dates for the overseas-based Guyana players and coaches were announced.
The Cuba, Suriname and St. Vincent & the Grenadines teams are scheduled to arrive around March 1-2, while CFU officials are yet to confirm their dates of arrival.
It was also decided that shortly, the Committee will commence a vigorous advertising and promotional campaign aimed at attracting a massive crowd for home support and by extension support of all the games.
Meanwhile, the Committee have sent out letters requesting permission to use the following grounds for practice sessions when the teams arrive.
