Two British Nationals are currently assisting the Police Narcotics Branch and the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit with investigations into two separate drug busts.
The two women were nabbed mere minutes apart at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri, yesterday.
This newspaper was told that one of the women was nabbed by ranks of the Police Narcotics branch around 10:15 hours yesterday while she was about to board an outgoing flight. The woman has since been identified as Victoria Hairs.
The woman was seen acting in a suspicious manner while she was checking in her luggage. She was searched and some 1 kilogram and 26 grams of cocaine was concealed in her wig. Following a brief interrogation the woman provided the name of another female passenger who had reportedly boarded the same flight she was about to board.
Subsequently, the other passenger was nabbed by ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit. She too was found with some one kilogram of cocaine hidden in her wig. Up to press time yesterday she was in the custody of Customs Anti Narcotics Unit.
Both women are likely to be charged and placed before the court.
Cocaine being transported in female wigs seems to be a new trend in moving the prohibited substance out of Guyana.
Some two weeks ago another woman was caught with cocaine in her wig at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Timehri. She has since been charged and place before the court. Another woman who was implicated was charged for supplying the cocaine for export.
