Former senior Kaieteur News pressman, Ashim Rafeek, was yesterday laid to rest at the McDoom Muslim burial ground.
The burial took place shortly after a somber viewing at his residence.
The ceremony was permeated with tears as the body of the young man lay wrapped in white surrounded by relatives and friends.
Emotions ran riot with moving tributes by relatives and friends with all focusing on the fact that he was a loss to society given his kind and compassionate nature.
He was described as a productive and ambitious individual who held core family values which moved many to even more tears.
Rafeek met his demise on Tuesday last when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on the West Coast of Demerara.
According to reports, Rafeek, of Lot One, BB Eccles East Bank Demerara, was heading in an easterly direction along the Crane Public Road around 22:00 hours when he crashed head on into a car travelling in the opposite direction.
Rafeek leaves to mourn his wife, Annie Noharie, who is two months pregnant with their second child, his parents Shameena and Abdool Rafeek among other relatives and friends.
Rafeek had been employed at the Kaieteur News for some seven years.
Kaieteur News extends condolences to his parents, wife and other relatives.
