Melanie Patriots record first victory
Ravens continued its record of heavy wins in the 2010 Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Open League Sunday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall when they completely outclassed Nets in the featured game.
Ryan Stephney had his best game of the League so far with a game-high 19 points to lead Ravens to whopping 35-point victory over Nets in their second big win after the team had won heavy against Bounty Colts in their first game.
Ravens put on quite an offensive show to win 85-50 in the lopsided game as Ryan Gullen continues to show up on the score sheets with 14 points. Kevin Lawrence added 12 points and Rodwell ‘Kobe’ Fortune put 10 points in the effort.
The team’s victory came without a major effort from national forward, Dwayne Roberts, who is usually very difficult to defend. It marked their fourth consecutive Division I win against a Georgetown club at all levels this season.
Gilroy Adams came off his leading offensive role in Nets’ Division III loss earlier in the night to contribute 10 points in the first division game. Drumson McCulley also had 10 as Fabian Johnson finished with nine points for Nets.
Earlier in the night, Nets’ third division team went down to newcomers Melanie Patriots 51-66. Floyd Avilur scored 22 points and Sylvester Bascom had 13 points for the Patriots who had lost to Eagles last week in their opening game. Adams scored 17 points for Nets and Ryan Wilson had 13. The competition is set to continue tonight. However, the complete revised fixture for the tournament was not available up to Kaieteur Sports’ press time yesterday.
The GABA was forced to revise the fixture following Pepsi Sonics’ withdrawal from the tournament that is certainly heating up. The best four teams are set to advance out of the first round, which will conclude sometime next week.
