On January 9, last, a staffer from the Public Safety Department of the Georgetown Public Hospital was assaulted by another. To date, while the matter has been reported to management nothing has come of it.
However, based on inside information the two women will know their fate on Monday. One witness said that she saw a woman working at the north gate of the compound on New Market Street when another staffer approached her with an accusation that she had stolen a roll of toilet paper.
Simultaneously the accuser allegedly assaulted the other with a bottle of coca cola despite denials of the allegations. The attacker then reportedly took away the victims bag and began a search of it but the missing toilet paper was not in the bag.
The witness said they watched as the victim pushed the assailant and in an attempt to retrieve her bag a scuffle broke out. “They scramble one another and a scuffle broke out that lasted for about three minutes. Then a few other hospital staff intervened.
“However the attacker relieved herself of her shoes and connected several blows to the victim’s head even though other staffers were trying to part them”.
The fight eventually ended and they both were sent home for the day while the matter was reported to the Hospital’s administration.
One of the immediate moves was the suspension of pay for both parties but this was rescinded after the intervention of the union. Since then, the women have been advised to report to the Human Resource Department at intervals.
They both were placed on no pay leave to facilitate an investigation. Then the union became involved and the payment was restored. One recently completed a year as a staffer while the attacker has been there for more than 14 years.
Reports are that both of them are likely to be dismissed following the meeting on Monday.
