Ravens easily tame Bounty Colts
Courts Pacesetters rallied from being down double digits at the end of the first quarter of their Division III game against Macabees to beat the team that had opened with a morale boosting win earlier this week in the League’s first round.
Pacesetters rebounded from an 11-point (19-8) deficit at the end of the first period to take 57-45 points victory Thursday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association League continues.
The number one ranked third division club in the City cleverly adjusted its defence in the second quarter of the game, which adequately addressed the opening jitters, to stifle those raging offensive splurges from Macabees early on.
The results were that Macabees merely added five points in the entire second period to its first period score as Pacesetters stepped up its offence.
The Courts-sponsored team turned the offensive tide to take a 25-24 points lead at halftime.
Pacesetters’ defence thoroughly intimidated Macabees for the rest of the game which was evident from their remaining offensive runs. They went up 41-33 after the third and there was absolutely no hesitation in seizing the initiative.
National junior point guard, Richard Mohandatt was at the helm with 14 points for Courts Pacesetters with Drexel Amsterdam adding 10 points. Nationals guard, Wainright Haynes and Yannick Dundas had 15 and 10 respectively for Macabees.
Ravens extended its Division I winning streak at all levels to 3-0 in a somewhat easy win against Bounty Colts in the feature game. Georgetown’s number two ranked first division club, Ravens won 73-59 taming the Bounty Colts.
Ravens had previously won two grudge matches against number one ranked Courts at the Division I level. The first win was in November and the second was last Saturday to open the ongoing 2010 Leagues. Thursday night they went 3-0. Forward Kevin Lawrence brought over his exceptional form from last season with a lead performance for Ravens. The underestimated guard/forward scored 21 points to continue his march toward a possible national selection this year.
Ryan Stephney returned to form offensively with 13 points while Rodwell Fortune scored 12 points as Dwayne Roberts added 11 points. Dane Kendall had 13 points for Colts with Desmond Chin adding 10 and Gavin Beeram eight.
The first round of the Leagues continue this weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the Georgetown sub-association map out the new fixtures following Pepsi Sonics sudden pullout last Sunday on the opening night of the event. (Edison Jefford)
