Dear Editor,
I wish to refer to the article under the caption “Devious plot afoot to destroy party – PNCR says” (KN 23-01-10) and make a few observations.
The People’s National Congress Reform, through its Vice Chairman, Mr. Basil Williams is claiming that “A devious plot is afoot to destroy the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR)…..” that “…this move, which is a wicked and dastardly act, will not succeed….” and “… it was uncovered that there is a well-financed plot by a group of political power seekers whose intention is to promote disharmony as part of a wider plan to establish an alternative political party in Guyana.”
Ironically, a similar claim was made three years ago by Mr. Corbin when Team Alexander (TA) announced publicly that it would field a candidate for Leader of the Party at the 2007 Biennial Congress and again last year when Dr. Van West Charles announced he would be contesting the position of Leader at the last Congress.
Mr. Corbin claimed that the public announcement by TA was some nefarious plot to destroy the PNCR. He hastily summoned meetings of members around the country and commenced a bitter campaign against members of Team Alexander, effectively dividing the Party. Divide and rule! At that time he did not recognize the damage to the Party since he was to benefit.
Now that Mr. Corbin is again under political pressure he is doing the same thing all over again, claiming a new political group is about to be formed and the logical deduction for him is that it wants to destroy the PNCR.
He has summoned meetings and is again promoting a campaign of revulsion.
Isn’t it possible Mr. Corbin that this group has no confidence in your leadership and its sole purpose could be to defeat the PPP/C at the upcoming local and general elections?
Are you concerned that the defeat of the PPP/C means you no longer would have a political ally and the membership would finally bid you farewell?
Mr. Corbin and his cabal also claim “it was uncovered that there is a well-financed plot by some group.” He should take note. Commonsense would dictate that no one will finance any grouping, whether established political party or not, unless, they endorse their goals and objectives and the members demonstrate their abilities to manage the resources in an open and transparent manner.
Mr. Corbin should ask himself why this alleged group is well financed but he is getting no financial support.
Mr. Corbin is not only concerned that members of the PNCR will defect to this group but also seems to be concerned that “…. their plan is to raid all existing political parties of their membership, by nefarious means, and organize these persons to form a new political Party.” and that “… they have already approached members of some existing parties…”
Why is Mr. Corbin concerned about a group of “power seekers and political wannabes” raiding the PPP/C and AFC of its members?
