A fine all-round performance by Captain Eon Hooper guided Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 team into the final of the Peter Lewis Associated Construction Services Under-23 tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board.
Hooper smashed a quick fire 72 and then grabbed 5 wickets as Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets (RHTG&G) crushed Tucber Park by 136 runs in their semi-final which was played at the Area “H” ground on Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the home team found themselves in early trouble as openers Dominic Rickey and Trevor Thomas were dismissed cheaply to leave RHTG&G at 8-2 in the 3rd over.
Rickey pulled a long hop from off spinner Andel De Jonge straight to deep square leg while lively pacer Tashan Harry trapped Thomas LBW.
Jason Sinclair and Clinton Pestano then started the recovery for the home team by adding 90 for the 3rd wicket before Pestano was bowled by left arm spinner Kevin Leitch for 25. Hooper and Sinclair then put on 20 for the 4th wicket before Sinclair was forced to retire with severe cramps in his right arm.
Hooper was joined by the attacking Terrence Madramootoo and they took the score to 153-4 in the 39th over before Madramootoo was stumped off Troy Mickle for 20.
Sinclair returned to the wicket and in partnership with Hooper launched an all out attack on the hapless Tucber Park attack. Hooper eventually departed for 72 (6 sixes & 3 fours) at 229-5 in the 46th over.
Demerara left arm spinner Damien Vantull, a product of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, then joined Sinclair and they added 40 off the final 4 overs. Sinclair was unbeaten on 94 (12 fours & 1 six) while Vantull was on 19.
Tucber Park in reply lost opener Jamally Odle (10) via the run out route at 23-1 in the 4th over. Andrew Williams who opened the innings and No. 3 Terrence De Cunha added 20 for the 2nd wicket before pacer Clinton Pestano dismissed Williams for 10 at 43-2.
De Cunha and Leon Williams took advantage of the power play overs to add 54 for the 3rd wicket before Hooper bowled Williams for 11. The dismissal of De Cunha for a well compiled 41, stumped off Hooper in 21st over, triggered a collapse as Tucber Park were dismissed for 134 in the 31st over. Hooper retuned bowling figures of 5-24 off 8 overs while offspinner Loyden Lewis took 2-13.
RHT Gizmos & Gadgets will play the winner of the second semi-final between Young Warriors and Albion in the final scheduled for Saturday January 30.
