When entries closed on Sunday January 24 over 60 (sixty) of the country’s top racehorses had already taken entry for the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club grand one day horserace meet slated for Sunday January 31 at Club’s track situated at Alness Village, Corentyne Berbice.
Seven (7) races are listed on day’s card with 2.5 million in cash and prizes up for grabs. A number of newly imported horses will be taking to the track in Guyana for the first time and with this being the first race meet for the new 2010 racing season a lot is expected.
The Ryan Crawford racetrack is one of the best in the country and according to organizer Colin Elcock the track is in the best of shape.
The C Class match-up highlights the day’s activity which includes three (3) other features events.
Namely the 3yrs old Maiden Guyana and West Indies Bred Race, The E & Lower and the G Class gallop. All the races will be run over a distance of 1400m.
The C Class race is sponsored by Banks DIH Limited to the tune of over $600,000 and has a winning purse of $300,000 along with the Banks DIH Trophy. This race will see a return of the Veteran Delmur Gold to the racing arena. Among the other entries are Annie’s Playmate, Sweet Caramel, Laura Lee in Flight, Madam Butterfly, Miss Republic, The Message, and Sweet Romance.
The 3 yrs old match up has a winner’s money of $200,000 and the main entries are:
Infinity, Little Caesar, Stormy Lass, Celebration Time, Little Spike, O’ SO Sharp and Mona Lisa.
The E Class race will see the winner also taking home $200,000 and among those in the line up are: Debatable, Romantic Passion, Sir Balajee, Madam Butterfly, The Gap, Night Crescendo, Face De Music, Pegasus Rising and Fresh Prospect.
The G Class carries a $150,000 purse and those expected to compete includes: Gold Romance, Finishing Touch, Sir Balajee, Fire Power, Stylish Line, Pegasus Rising, Face De Music, Pyro Flo and Baby Boy.
The other races listed on the days programme are: I & Lower for a first prize of $100,000; Unclassified Division I has a winning take of $80,000 and the Unclassified Division 2 & 3 will see the top horses taking home $60,000.
There will also be Trophies for the Top Jockeys and Trainers compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market. Race time is 13:00 hrs.
Rhythm Star International Sounds will add to the atmosphere with musical entertainment.
