Timehri Panthers, Grove Hi Tec and Yarrowkabra have secured a place in the final four of the Stag Beer sponsored East Bank Football Association (EBFA) division one league.
After completing their 7 first round games, Timehri Panthers have accumulated a total of 17 points, Grove Hi Tec are a single point behind with one game in hand while Yarrowkabra who have also completed their quota of first round matches ended with 11 points.
Three teams have a chance to take the final spot, Kuru Kururu Warriors, on 9 points with two games in the bag. Mocha Champs have 7 points from their 5 games with 2 to play also, while Soesdyke Falcons are on 6 with one game in hand. Kuru Kuru Lions are on 3 points while Agricola who failed to show up for any of their games are at the bottom of the table without a point.
In latest play last weekend at the Grove ground, Grove needled Soesdyke Falcons in feature play with the opening game between Yarrowkabra and Timehri Panthers ending in an exciting 2-2 draw.
Grove, still unbeaten in the tournament along with the Panthers, got their winning goal off the boot of John Matthews in the 53rd minute of a close tussle. Both sides guilty of not capitalizing on the many chances they created.
Timehri Panthers had to dig deep into their reserves to overcome the energized effort of Yarrowkabra competing at this level for the first time.
The Linden Soesdyke Highway based Yarrowkabra racked up a 2-0 advantage by the 47th minute with goals in the 1st minute by Ruel Reece and 47th off the boot of Wayne Campbell.
Sensing that they were close to creating one of the biggest upsets of the competition, Yarrowkabra continued to hold firm but could not for too long as the experience of the Panthers came into the picture. Hubert Adams was the man to ensure the Panthers’ unbeaten record was kept intact as he banged in the double in the 50th and 73rd minute, respectively.
More exciting action is set for Sunday at the same venue when another double header is contested. Mocha Champs engage Kuru Kururu Warriors in the main event with the curtain raiser featuring Kuru Kuru Lions and Soesdyke Falcons from 13:00hrs.
