Bakewell lends support; Western Tigers to face Topp XX in feature game
As the benevolence of thousands of Guyanese continues to pour out, the Haiti Disaster Relief Committee (HDRC) of Linden is teaming up with renowned organisers Kashif & Shanghai to bring off what is expected to be an exciting evening of football this Sunday at the Mackenzie sports Club ground.
Member of the HDRC, Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major, said this initiative was one of the ways in which the community of football and in particular Linden wanted to show that they care and empathize with the nation of Haiti.
Major said that reigning Kashif and Shanghai champions BK International Western Tigers will square off with five-time Kashif and Shanghai champions Bakewell Topp XX in the feature match of a double header this Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in the Bauxite Mining town.
Home based teams, Eagles United and Milerock FC will match skills in the first game set to kick off at 18:00hrs.
Yesterday at their Albert Street office, Bakewell handed over a cheque to Aubrey Major which will assist the organisers to offset certain expenses in relation to planning Sunday’s activity. Major also stated that part of the monies handed over will go towards a Republic Cup competition in Linden being organised to celebrate Guyana’s 40th Republic Anniversary.
In handing over the cheque, General Manager of Bakewell Rajin Ganga noted Bakewell’s delight at being associated both with the Haiti Disaster Relief Committee and the Republic Cup competition.
“We have always been at the forefront of assisting in every area of need and when we were approached to lend a helping hand we had no hesitation. Linden is an area we have always supported and we will continue to do so.”
Ganga said that Haiti needs all the help they can get to rebound from the depths of the recent disaster and every little contribution will assist them in that regard.
The contribution for Sunday’s double header will be $500 and all proceed will be going directly to the people of Haiti. Persons will also be allowed to make any further contributions while at the venue on Sunday evening.
