The National Sports Commission and Director of Sport Neil Kumar have expressed deep sympathy following the loss of former National Athletics Champion Roxanna Rigby at the youthful age of 18.
In a release the NSC through Kumar noted, “Roxanna Rigby joined the sporting arena in Track and Field and holds National School Titles and Records in the long jump, triple jump, and the 100m and 200m events at the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) Athletics Championship held in Albion in November 2009.
This talented and versatile athlete, who represented her country with pride in Track and Field, Volleyball and Football at the 2009 Inter Guiana Games – where she won both the 100m and 200 m and was considered the fastest woman in Track & Field. She also represented Guyana at the Junior Pan American Games in Trinidad and Tobago in July 2009.
The National Sports Commission offers it sincere condolences to her immediate family, relatives, friends and colleagues of the various sporting fraternity which she represented.”
