El Dorado SC and Golden Fleece recorded victories as the South Essequibo twenty/20 cricket competition continued last Sunday on the Essequibo Coast with two matches.
At Johanna Cecelia, El Dorado overcame Jaguars by 28 runs. El Dorado batted first and rattled up 165-5 in 20 overs. Muna Amin top scored with 57 while Tameshwar Deonarine made 53 and Robin Persaud 30 as Zandee Khan grabbed 3-20.
Jaguars in reply made 137 all out in 18 overs. Roy Gonsalves was their leading run getter with 35 and Zulfikar Mohamed supported with 24. Mahendra Raj bagged 3-20 for the winners.
At Suddie, Golden Fleece defeated Jaguars by 10 wickets. Jaguars took first turn at the crease and were bowled out for 48 in 16.2 overs. Devanand Madhoo (4-6) and Thomas Chand (3-10) were the main wicket takers for Golden Fleece who responded with 50 without loss in 11 overs. Essequibo wicketkeeper batsman Gewan Singh led with 28.
The semi-final is scheduled for today; El Dorado will take on United Brothers at Johanna Cecilia and Rising Star will do battle with Golden Fleece at Suddie.
