Twenty-four year old David Williams called ‘Dog face’, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, who on the last occasion forced the magistrate to abandon proceedings was in court again on Monday last and was further remanded. This time the authorities took no chance as the man was shackled with chains on his feet and handcuffed.
Williams, who was described as a regular, appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo to answer a charge of larceny from a person.
It is alleged that on January 6 he stole a cell phone belonging to Marvin Scipio during a gambling session. Scipio who was present in court admitted that they were gambling but told the court that Williams did steal his phone, which was found on him at the police station the following day.
Williams however continued to deny that he stole the phone and told the court that he had it for safe keeping and would have returned it subsequently.
He begged the magistrate for bail and said that he is being punished for something that he did not do. He added that he is not well. The magistrate once again refused bail. He is scheduled to return to court on February 1.
When he last appeared, on January 8, Williams caused such a commotion at the New Amsterdam court that forced the magistrate to immediately adjourned proceedings and retreat to her chambers.
He had to be subdued by police ranks and hurried out of the court after the uproar. The man had somehow managed to open the handcuff as he pinpointed those whom he would target. He had even threatened harm to those who try to oppress him and said that he would seek an audience with the Home Affairs Minister.
