Labourer Harry Persaud, a\k Terry of Hampton Court Village, had his left hand severed because of an accident Sunday afternoon on the Hampton Court Public Road.
According to Persaud’s sister-in-law, Savitree Persaud, her brother-in-law had left his Hampton Court, residence for a neighbouring shop, heading north; to purchase a bottle of bagyon minutes after the accident occurred.
She related that Persaud was hit head on, allegedly by a speeding car that was proceeding north. She noted that the injured man sustained severe head injuries and his left hand was severed.
Mrs. Persaud said the injured man was subsequently picked up by neighbours and was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital before being air dashed to Georgetown Public Hospital were he is scheduled to undergo emergency surgery to his injured hand.
Harry Persaud must be accident prone. He was involved in several other road accidents before.
And in another incident, doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital were battling to save the left foot of Plumber, Mahadeo Rookim, 46, of Golden Fleece Estate, who was involved in an accident last week Sunday on the Johanna Cecilia Public road. According to a police report, around 13.30hrs, Rookim left his place of employment and was heading home on his motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a car.
The plumber was immediately rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, but the seriousness of his injuries caused him to be air dashed to the city hospital where doctors are struggling to save his left leg.
Police have since launched an investigation into the matter and the driver is presently in police custody pending investigation.
