South Essequibo emerged as Zone ‘A’ champions after recording victories over North and Central Essequibo and Pomeroon in the Guyana Cricket Board U-15 50 overs cricket competition played recently on the Essequibo Coast.
At Anna Regina, South defeated North by 41 runs. South batted first and scored 138, Andy Das 22 and Raj Parbattie 16 n.o. were their main run getters. North in reply could only muster 97 all out in 31 overs. Imtiaz Ghanie top scored with 21 and Juma Lall 18 as Andy Dass bagged 4-17 and Alistair Paul 2-14 for South.
In South’s second game played at the same venue they crushed Central by 113 runs. In a game which was reduced to 42 overs, South took first strike and managed 171-7 off their allotted overs. Raj Parbattie led with 54 while Ameer Mohamed supported with 44 as Deolall Persaud and Akeel Wallace grabbed two wickets. Central in reply were skittled out for 58 in 25 overs. Wallace was the only batsman that offered any resistance with 24 as Wazim Karoon (3-10) and Andy Dass (2-6) were the chief wicket takers.
In scores from other matches: @ Suddie, South beat Pomeroon by 8 wickets. Pomeroon 51 all out in 17 overs. (Albert Ramnauth 5-6, Andy Dass 3-12) South 56-2 in 15 overs (Placid Edwards 13, Navindra Sarabjeet 2-6).
@ Pomeroon: North beat the host by 54 runs. North 109-5 in 22 overs (Imtiaz Ghanie 22, Mikel Garaway 3-13) Pomeroon 55 all out in 20 overs. (Amant Kowshaldeo 4-17, Mahindra Harrychand 3-8). The game was reduced to 22 overs due to rain.
@ Anna Regina: North overcame Central by 30 runs. North 183-8 in 35 overs (Mahendra Harrychand 60, Tameshwar Drepaul 57, Deolall Persaud 3-42). Central 153-6 in 35 overs (Herry Green 51, Suhit Khemraj 22, Ovindo Persaud 3-30, Amant Kowshaldeo 2-24. The overs were reduced due to rain.
South are now awaiting the zone B winner to contest the final. Zone B which includes Wakenaam, Leguan, Bartica and East Bank Essequibo is yet to commence their matches.
