Mike Guyadin kicked off 2010 on a high note when he came out triumphant, while National sportswoman of the Year nominee Christine Sukhram copped the women’s title in the Hibiscus Restaurant of New York sponsored Medal Play golf tournament Saturday at the Lusignan Golf course.
Guyadin (13 handicap gross 80) won on a count back from Mike Mangal (6 handicap gross 73) as the ‘Mikes’ dominated the top two places in the 0-18 flight with net scores of 67.
Mangal also recorded the best gross of 73 in the tournament.
Patrick Prashad placed third with net 69 from a gross 74 playing off a 5 handicap.
Mark Lashley continued to impress this season with his second victory in as many matches in the 19-28 flight.
Playing off a 25 handicap, Lashley recorded a gross 95 for a net 70 to beat into second position Albert Semple who recorded a gross 99 for a net 74 playing off a 28 handicap.
Newcomer Charles Hibbert 28 handicap, gross 103 net 75 secured the third position.
Sukhram, the reigning Guyana Open female champion proved once again to be in top form in winning the female title.
Playing with a 7 handicap Sukhram recorded a gross 76 to end with a net 69.
Andre Cummings was Nearest to the Pin.
Ronald Bulkan, Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club expressed gratitude to the proprietors of the Hibiscus Restaurant for their timely support.
Club Captain Jerome Khan told members that the restaurant located in Queens, New York is a popular West Indian eatery in the borough.
Khan said the US-based club member Edward Ajodha was instrumental in securing the sponsorship and he indicated that several overseas sponsors have been secured for this season.
Meanwhile, the local players will be back in action on Sunday in the Stag Beer sponsored Medal Play tournament.
