Committee promises to take the sport to new heights
The incumbent Peter Green was returned unopposed as President of the Guyana Amateur Power Lifting Federation when that entity held its Annual General Meeting yesterday at the Tropical View International Hotel, Delph Street and Campbell Avenue, Georgetown.
Members present elected a high powered and well experienced committee to govern the affairs of the Federation in a year when Guyana will create history with the hosting of the 4th Annual Caribbean Power Lifting and Bench Press Championships from March 18-20, 2010 at the Princess Hotel, East Bank Demerara.
Former President Ed Caesar who was at the helm from 1999 – 2002 was also elected unopposed to the position of General Secretary replacing former Secretary Gordon Spencer. Another former President, John Edwards took over the Vice President position form Andrew Austin.
Edward Livan retained his position as Treasurer with Mark Seymour taking over as Public Relations Officer from Ron Loncke. Seymour was the preferred candidate to Mark Young winning 14 votes to 5.
The new committee members are Gordon Spencer, Wendell McPherson and Farouk Abdool.
Green expressed delight at being back at the helm of the sport and said he was confident that his team will deliver to make the sport even better and stronger in 2010.
At the first meeting of the executive which is set for Friday evening at Georgetown Club, focus will be on the upcoming Caribbean Championships and finalizing the selection of the 15-member National team.
Members from Linden, Berbice, Essequibo and the city attended the AGM along with former Power Lifter now Professional Bodybuilder, Hugh Ross. (Franklin Wilson)
