A fine allround performance by Mark Tyrell guided Henrietta United to an exciting victory over Richmond Youths in the final of the R&D Engineering Service and Guyana Cricket Board 50 overs U-17 cricket competition played recently at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground on the Essequibo Coast.
Henrietta won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 211 all out in 50 overs. Tyrell smashed 82 which included two sixes and eight fours and got valuable support from Magiel Robeiro who made 62 (5×4).
Amant Kowshaldeo was the pick of the bowlers for Richmond Youths with 6-41 from 10 overs while Ghansham Persaud took 2-52.
Richmond responded with 207 all out in 49.4 overs. Kowshaldeo returned to top score with 78 (10×4) while Alex Collins supported with 57 as Tyrell also showed his allround ability by taking 4-49. Emino Cameron grabbed 3-52 for the Henrietta who won the battle by 4 runs.
Henrietta received $10,000 and a trophy while runner-up Richmond took $8,000 and a trophy.
Tyrell was given the man of the match award.
At the presentation ceremony Mr. Reginald Roach, a representative of R&D Engineering Service of Georgetown pledged to continue sponsoring cricket in North Essequibo.
He said he felt happy that Henrietta won the competition since he hails from that village. Ms Elizabeth Gransville, an executive member of the North Essequibo Cricket Committee, thanked the sponsors for coming on board.
