A file concerning the accident in which 18-year-old Lakram Delima was injured, has been prepared and would be presented to the Director of Public Prosecutions once the officer in charge of the Beteverwagting Police station is finish perusing it.
That information was divulged by a traffic rank at the police station.
The rank explained that the driver who resides in England, has been reporting to the police station whenever he is required to do so.
The officer further told this newspaper that checks are made to the hospital periodically to ascertain the teen’s condition.
“We are still investigating the matter, contrary to reports in the public,” the officer said.
The 18-year-old was seriously injured in an accident on Old Year’s night and is still in an unconscious state at the Georgetown Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
The youth who hails from La Bonne Intention sustained multiple injuries to the body after he was struck down by a motorcar. He is also hooked up to a life support machine.
His mother, Sharmilla Ramdeo, hopes that her son would make a full recovery.
She had told this newspaper that the most upsetting part was that the driver of the accident was placed on bail even though her son has not fully recovered.
She has also accused members of the police force for not showing enough compassion towards her family.
According to the woman, the police would deny to give her an update about her son’s matter whenever she visits the police station.
“The officers would holler at me telling me that it’s a police matter and I should go home, but I cannot. It’s my son.”
She also says that she has never seen the driver since he was placed on $50,000 bail which leaves her to believe that he has left the country since he resides in England.
On Old Year’s Night, the teen had left his home to purchase a phone card to call his grandmother in Canada.
He did not return, causing his parents to launch a search in the area.
The teen’s parents drove past the accident scene six times before they eventually recognised their son’s jersey on the road.
“My husband saw a pool of blood on the road and we stopped and came out of the vehicle and when I came closer I saw my son’s jersey on the road covered in blood,”
She was later informed that her son was struck down by a motorcar and was taken to the hospital by a GDF ambulance.
