– granted self-bail
Local talk show host and social activist Mark Benschop, 37, of 137 Caneview Avenue Roxanne Burnham Gardens was yesterday granted self-bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on charges related to an illegal radio transmission.
It is alleged that on October 29, 2009 at Caneview Avenue, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Benschop installed in his premises a FM radio transmitter for wireless radio transmission without a licence.
It is also alleged that on the same day at his address he obstructed Valmickie Singh from performing his duties. Benschop who was represented by attorney at law Faye Barker pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Barker applied for bail for her client. Police prosecutor Stephen Telford had no objections to bail for the accused.
Benschop was then granted self-bail on both charges by the Acting Chief Magistrate. He is expected to return to court on January 28.
