This excavator which works under the supervision of the Guyana Marines Services, a private company, was submerged in the sea behind the Pegasus Hotel.
Its owner, Netram Toolsie, called Prakash, of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara, said that it has been totally destroyed.
According to Toolsie, the excavator was contracted by GT&T, and had a value of $39M.
The machine was sent out to release a barge anchor that had become stuck. The location where the barge was moored, was said to be unsafe but the supervisors sent it out, hoping for the best.
The result is that the machine was caught in a compromising position and became stuck and immobile. It had to be abandoned
It was further said that the insurance company would be covering the expenses for the excavator.
The excavator was one of two being used to help prepare the US$60 million cable that would replace the Americas 2 cable.
This cable links Suriname and Trinidad.
Another machine has since been dispatched to the area.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
