Eleven days into the New Year and already five persons have been killed on the country’s roads.
The latest victim is 57-year-old Jack Singh, of Hope Village, East Bank Demerara.
Singh was pronounced dead at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre around 19:00 hours on Sunday after he was struck down by a car 15 minutes earlier.
According to reports, Singh was standing on the road when the driver of motorcar, PKK 1632, allegedly swerved from a parked vehicle and struck him down.
From all appearances, Singh died on the spot but he was still picked up and rushed to the Diagnostic Centre where his death was officially pronounced.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
