The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has signalled its dissatisfaction with road works being carried out at the Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
According to the water company, the road project which is being undertaken by contractor, Rudy Baldeo and Engineer K. Bessesar has caused damage to sewerage chambers.
This state of affairs, GWI has noted, is coupled with the disregard that the contractor is showing for infrastructure.
“We received the report and responded only to find several damaged connections,” said Divisional Manager, Shimbhudyal Naitram.
The contractor, he added, was asked to take the necessary precautions when excavating to avoid further damage, a request he blatantly disregarded.
“A resident was pleading with him to try to save his connection where the contractor replies that GWI is here to effect repairs,” Naitram disclosed.
GWI has signalled its intention to work toward curbing the contractors and has even mooted the need for them to pay for damages caused.
