Salim, who scored 341 runs and took 20 wickets in local club matches, also received the best batsman award for 2009.
Essequibo allrounder Nazeer Mohamed who took 30 wickets with his off spin collected the best bowler trophy while Chandreka Ragnauth who managed 323 runs and bagged 18 wickets carted off the allrounder of the year prize. The most discipline player award went to Imran Khan.

The club also engaged the overseas based Kallicharran Foundation XI in a 40 overs match which they won.
Speaking at the ceremony, chairman of the club Mustak Mohamed lauded the efforts of its cricketers throughout the year. He said that the club will focus more on the youths in the future. He also congratulated the players who made the Essequibo inter-county team.
Chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee Sheik Ahmad encouraged the players to take the game seriously. He said he would like more Sarwans and Dowlins from the island.
Mr. Ahmad said the presence of West Indies star batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, who was also born on the island, served as a great motivational factor for the youngster.
Sarwan was on the island on Sunday where he led a squad which includes allrounder Royston Crandon, Minister of housing Irfan Ali and other national players to victory over Wakenaam at the Wakenaam Community Centre Ground.
Meanwhile, the following players who won awards in 2009 also received same Tuesday evening. They are: Abdool Salim – Best Batsman, Imran Khan – Best Bowler, Chandreka Ragnauth – Most discipline player, Imran Khan – cricketer of the year and Nazeer Mohamed – best allrounder.
