John Matthews nets hat-trick as Grove Hi Tec trounce Yarrowkabra 4-1
The 2009 Stag Beer League organized by the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) resumed on Sunday last at the Grove Playfield following a break for the 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament.
Grove Hi Tec who made a dream start to the Kashif and Shanghai tournament when they needled Upper Demerara’s Milerock before going out at the quarter-final stage to Alpha United 7-1, refocused their aim on claiming the Stag Beer League with a solid 3-1win over Yarrowkabra FC.
Yarrowkabra started the game in enterprising fashion when they drew first blood in only the 2nd minute of play via a Ryon Davidson effort but as it turned out, that was the only time they troubled the score sheet.
Leading the charge for Grove was John Matthews who blasted the nets on three occasions in the 13th, 23rd and 52nd minute, Dominic Garnett converting the other in the 78th minute.
A double header will be contested on Sunday at the same venue from 13:00hrs. Soesdyke Falcons square off against Kuru Kururu Warriors with Mocha Champs opposing Yarrowkabra in the feature game from 15:00hrs.
