…man tells Chief Magistrate
A man who allegedly chopped another man and claimed that his intention was to kill the victim was yesterday refused bail when he made an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer a charge of felonious wounding.
It is alleged that on January 3, 27-year-old Desmond Rigby unlawfully and maliciously wounded Terry Farrier with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm.
Rigby who was unrepresented pleaded not guilty to the charge and said aloud, “God knows it, I wanted to kill him.”
Recounting the incident, Rigby said about three Sundays ago he was sleeping at the Meadow Bank wharf and “felt something bracing his back hard”. He said that it was Farrier in his underwear, armed with a razor blade. Rigby claimed that he then realized that his pants and underwear were cut at his rear. He added that at this time Farrier ran away.
Rigby said that on the day in question (January 3) he saw Farrier in Sophia and he armed himself with a cutlass. He claimed that he waited for Farrier and upon seeing him dealt him several chops until a passerby pulled a gun and fired a shot in the air.
“This man is a old-time bugger man and I woulda kill he if the man didn’t come with the gun. I woulda chop he head off” Rigby said emphatically.
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson then remanded Rigby and ordered that he return to court on January 28.
