I have ceased to reply to the letters of Annan Boodram of New York, who I feel, like Vishnu Bisram, has nothing to contribute to the attempts of good, patriotic Guyanese to find everlasting peace in Guyana by carving out a new political culture.
This is the same Boodram who vouched for the polling credibility of Vishnu Bisram by telling readers that Bisram finds the time to do polls and teach by allotting his weekends for his endless surveys. It was deception of the worst kind because Bisram writes all the time of the countries he has been visiting. This is a far cry from the week-end operator Boodram informs us about.
On the last day of 2009, there appeared a letter by Mr. Boodram in the Stabroek News. I didn’t read it. I wasn’t interested. Then two of Guyana’s most admirable political activists, Drs. David Hinds and Nigel Westmaas, published letters in reply to Boodram. The learned Abu-Bakr, Guyanese scholar living in France, also penned a composition as a rebuttal to Boodram.
I went to read Boodram’s missive. It is one of those publications that really get you emotional. I believe the most mild-mannered, soft spoken freedom fighter the Caribbean has produced is Eusi Kwayana. I say without fear of contradiction that if Kwayana had read that ocean of lies by Boodram and the insults heaped on Walter Rodney and African Guyanese he would have lost his temper albeit just for a fleeting moment.
Boodram’s outpouring is a concatenation of lies, fabrications and deceit. So far, three persons have responded to him -two Africans (Bakr and Hinds and Westmaas who is of mixed ancestry.) I call upon decent East Indians to expose the political miasma, sociological poison and intellectual fraud of Boodram so Indians can learn the truth that resides in contemporary Guyanese history. Here are my rebuttals to Boodram for which space will not permit an elaborate discourse.
Boodram — Walter Rodney drew large crowds at his meetings because people saw him as a curiosity and not out of political consideration.
FK- I don’t believe this idiocy warrants a reply so I will move on but it needs to be said that in the time that he lived and the time I spent with the WPA, there was the phenomenal achievement of Rodney in that Indians gravitated to him thus the admonition of Jagan to Rodney that the WPA should organise in Georgetown.
Anyone who lived in Guyana between 1974 and Rodney’s death in 1980 would have witnessed the relegation of Dr. Jagan and the PPP and the elevation of Rodney in the consciousness of the Guyanese people, not just the masses. If Burnham had given in and Rodney had contested a free poll he would have humiliated Dr. Jagan in the outcome.
Boodram – Cheddi Jagan abstained from violence during his days as opposition leader. FK -There were hundreds of episodes of arson in the sugar zones. The toll gate protest at Corentyne led to the murder of one of the policemen on duty and at least three PPP defectors were murdered. No doubt Boodram would reply that Burnham sent his agents to do all these things.
Boodram— He asked Kwayana to “itemise Rodney’s legacy” and Kwayana was unable to do so.
FK – Is this an attempt by Boodram to score some intellectual points over Kwayana? If there is anything Kwayana is capable of is to respond to any and every conceivable question on Guyanese politics.
Kwayana is an encyclopedia on Guyanese politics. Boodram – Jagan had an abiding interest in the welfare of the Guyanese people.
FK- Not more than the WPA leaders and some in the PNC leadership and certainly not more than people even in the old middle classes of the fifties.
Jagan had one loyalty and that was superior to Guyanese nationalism – communist internationalism.
This was the reason he accepted the dictate of the USSR and Cuba at a special meeting in 1975 to subordinate Freedom House to the overall policies on the Burnham Government thus giving it “Critical Support in 1976 and the his decision to merge with the PNC for the 1985 elections.
Boodram – the authors of books critical of Jagan like Ramharack on Balram Singh Rai and Seecharan on Sir Jock Campbell are biased.
FK- This means of course that Dr. Jagan was not biased in what he wrote of others. Again this is idiocy that should not necessitate a prolonged response.
Boodram – Cheddi was unaware of the machinations inside his party.
FK – This is a loathsome opinion. Here was a leader who as a policy never named a deputy. The chief manipulator was Jagan himself.
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
