Two men who took their employer’s truck without permission, crashed it and then claimed that they were victims of an armed robbery. They came up with that report because they needed to cover their actions. They are now in police custody.
Police said that the men were arrested after they made a false report that they were the victims of an armed robbery at Bamboo Landing, Upper Berbice River, on December 30, 2009.
According to the police, about 20:30 hours that day, the police received a report at Police Headquarters from the manager of a timber concession along the UNAMCO Road that two of his employees had informed the company that they had been held up by three men armed with firearms at Bamboo Landing, Upper Berbice River, who took away a motor lorry belonging to the company which they were using at the time.
As a result, the Guyana Police Force dispatched a team of police ranks to the area to investigate the matter and the motor lorry was recovered along the UNAMCO trail, about four miles from the timber concession, with damage to the body of the vehicle.
However, further investigations by the police revealed that the two employees had taken the motor lorry without permission for their own personal use.
They crashed it and subsequently made the false report to cover their actions.
They will be charged accordingly.
