Defending champions Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ and Satro Sports Club of Leguan will clash in what is anticipated to be a pulsating Barakat Brothers 20/ 20 Cricket final from 09:30hrs on Sunday at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground.
The winner will pocket $200,000 and a trophy while the runner-up will collect $50,000 and a Trophy. The Man-of-the-Match in the final will receive $10,000 and a trophy. Meten-Meer-Zorg, with National selectee Trevor Benn in their line-up, will start as favorites while all-rounder Mahendra Nandkishore will lead their batting along with former National under-19 players Rakesh Goberdhan, Deonauth Baksh and Avenash Shardananda. Balbinder Shivpersaud is also in their line-up.
Satro will depend on former Essequibo under-19 all rounder Kevin Gordon, Muneshwar Jattan and Skipper Trevor Whyte with the bat while left-arm spinners Hemraj Persaud and Brian Roopchand will lead the bowling attack for the visitors.
At 13:30hrs at the same venue the Barakat Brothers select All-Star team will take on West Demerara first Division team New Line Cavaliers in what promises to be an exciting match in which over $200,000 is up for grabs.
Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ beat Independence in the Boxing Day Semi-Final at Meten-Meer-Zorg West.
Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ won by 73 runs after recovering from 67- 6 to 142-8 in their 20 overs with Vice-Captain Avinash Shardananda (33) and Seymour Evans (37) being the main scorers while Skipper Shawn McKay (22) and Mahendra Nandkishore (17) supported with the bat.
David Allert 2-31 and Thakur Persaud 2-12 bowled well for Independence who in reply fell for 70 despite 28 from Kishan Shivgobin and 10 not out from Anand Bharat.
Former Guyana under-19 leg-spinner Rakesh Goberdhan took 3-7 from 4 overs and got support from Balbinder Shivpersaud with 2-17,
In the second semi-final on Sunday at Meten-Meer-Zorg West, Satro beat the host ‘B’ team by 2 wickets.
Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ scored 126 all out in 19.1 overs with opener Ashim Bashir top-scoring with 35. Jason Heyliger 18 and Arshad Alli 16 supported with the bat for the host as Skipper Trevor Whyte took 4-20 with his left-arm spin and was supported By Hemraj Persaud (3-16) for the visitors.
Satro reached 128-8 in 19.1 overs although left-hander Muneshwar Jattan batted intelligently to score 38. He was supped by Hookchand Savitri (24) for the winners as Jason Heyliger picked up 3-17, Atree Singh 2-29 and Leyland Sobers 2-16 in a losing cause.
Home team Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ team beat All-Youths in the Quarter-finals by 94 runs. Batting first, the host reached 166-7 from their 20 overs with opener Troy Khan top-scoring with 36. Jason Heyliger made 34, Feroze Barakat 19 and Mark Andrew 16. Anthony Carrington captured 2-19 and Sewchand Narine 2-20 for All-Youths, who in reply struggled to 74-9 in their 20 overs.
Narine made15 as Atree Singh (3-11) and Arshad Alli (2-23) bowled well to see their team to victory.
