– has to report to the police station
Mark Caesar, called “Li’l Mark” was released from police custody yesterday, after he posted $100,000 station bail.
Caesar and his friend, Hewley Barker, were both shot by an off duty police officer at the Roopa’s Bar, on Station Street Kitty, on Saturday.
Baker was fatally shot while Caesar was shot once in the right side of his back.
Caesar’s mother, Donna Aaron, told this newspaper that her son had been released from the Alberttown Police Station after he managed to secure $100,000 bail. The woman also said that her son is required to report daily to the police station, as the investigation continues.
She said that she is grateful that her son was released adding that the truth behind the shooting would be known shortly.
On Monday last Caesar was released from the Georgetown Public Hospital and was taken into custody.
The man’s wife, Claudia Caesar, had told Kaieteur News that members of the police force were being very unprofessional in carrying out their duties.
She said that her husband was taken into custody even though he has a wound that still requires medical attention. Mrs. Caesar said that the treatment being meted out to her husband demonstrates that the force has no feelings for human beings.
The woman had said that she was told that after her husband and Hewley Barker were shot they were both placed on the bridge and beaten.
“I really do not know why the police did not take them to the hospital; they probably wanted both men to die.” Caesar’s wife and mother had both reiterated that he had a checkered past, but has since changed his ways and had been living uprightly.
It is reported that Caesar and the now dead Barker went to make peace in a fight involving the policeman and their friend.
During this confrontation there was a scuffle that ended in the shooting.
Caesar’s attorney, Nigel Hughes, said that he is in the process of taking statements from eyewitnesses and will be preparing a file to send to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requesting that murder and attempted murder charges be brought against the policeman.
Further, Hughes said that should the DPP be reluctant to bring charges against the rank he will be filing private criminal charges.
