I am relieved that the two independent dailies have relegated Mr. Bisram’s “poll findings” to the letter columns instead of carrying them as important news items.
For a long time now Mr. Bisram has been engaged in conspiratorial activities which he referred to as polls. I chose to use the words, “conspiratorial activities” rather than unprofessional polling because I know (not believe) that Mr. Bisram does not engage in scientific surveys.
His latest output has finally exposed him. Against a mountain of criticism of lack of accountability and transparency in his operations, and against the announcement by this newspaper that there is a poll protocol which was born in the run up to the 2006, Mr. Bisram suddenly tell us that three weeks ago, he has done yet another poll.
I may be wrong but I believe his latest venture didn’t meet the criteria of the poll protocol thus the assignment of his “findings.” to the letter section of your newspaper. I do not know if there was any contact between the SN and Mr. Bisram on the start of his latest operation but I know there was no contact between the gentleman and the Kaieteur News. So we at the Kaieteur News were not informed about the format of his latest outing and the other protocol requirements
It is clear from this latest submission by Mr. Bisram that he is not going to subscribe to the protocol. If ever he was to do it, it would have been now given the barrage of criticism that he faced the past two months in both independent dailies. To think that he would announce he did yet another poll and informed no major organisation about the details shows what type of person we are dealing with. I hope this brings an end to the saga of Vishnu Bisram and his so-called polls.
It was a masquerade from the beginning and that he got away with his schemes showed the level to which this country has lost its intellectual base. I doubt in any other country in the entire region of the Americas, Mr. Bisram could have lasted so long without exposure. I shudder to think if there was another person like Bisram but more astute in defending himself and presenting his case what confusion he/she would have caused in the political arena
It needs to be pointed out that of all the politicians in the PPP, only one of them came out and said glowing things about Mr. Bisram, asserting that he is a top class pollster whose work spans two decades, and that is Mr. Ralph Ramkarran. Mr. Ramkarran did a Chronicle column in which he waxed lyrical about the ability and credentials of Vishnu Bisram. Now look who tops Mr. Bisram’s findings on who the people would like to see succeed Jagdeo; none other than Ramkarran. Makes you wonder who was behind Mr. Bisram’s latest escapade
Speaking as a political analyst, I fail to see how Mr. Ramkarran, so closely associated with PPP propaganda and Mr. Jagdeo, could have come out on top before Mr. Ramotar. I am not in favour of any of these gentlemen who I think does not have an ounce of presidential quality, but the Ramkarran finding is comical.
In these times, whichever PPP candidate wants to have the support of the Guyanese people must distance themselves from Mr. Jagdeo. Mr. Jagdeo is not a liked person and insiders of the PPP feel that they will lose the elections because of him. Of the two, Ramkarran and Ramotar, Ramkarran has been shamelessly writing about the superlative qualities of Mr. Jageo.
He wrote a Chronicle column in which he opined that Jagdeo has achieved so much for Guyana that if he was to run for a third term he would be president again. In that column, Mr. Ramkarran wrote of the social and economic achievements of Mr. Jagdeo. This certainly would not go down well with voters. Ramotar on the other hand has been quite vocal in denouncing third term conspiracies which will win him plaudits among people who dislike Mr. Jagdeo. Ramotar hasn’t got a negative track record of ministerial service so he is spared the wrath of the population. Even Mr. Robert Persaud in any scientific survey would do better than Mr. Ramkarran. Mr. Persaud is in his thirties and interfaces with different sectors of the society as Agriculture Minister. Mr. Ramkarran is in his seventies and hardly has a public profile. Maybe we will see more of the Ramkarran/Bisram combination as 2010 winds down.
