A 5-wicket haul from pacer Kevin Ogle and half-centuries from Delon Fernandes and Winston Forrester yesterday lead GCC to victory against Transport Sports Club (TSC) while a useful all-round performance by Daniel Gravesande and 42 from Kwame Crosse spurred Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) to a win against 3rd Class.
Both teams registered easy wins in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) 40-overs under-19 competition with GCC winning by 210 runs at Bourda and host MSC winning by 118 runs.
At Guyana’s first Test venue, the left-handed Fernandes followed up his half century from the day before with 4 fours and a six in 64 and got good support from Forrester who made an unbeaten 54 as GCC made 255-6 off 40 overs.
Raj Nanan, asked to open the batting looked good for 36 before he was bowled with a ball that kept low, while the attacking Alex Romalho made 18 for GCC as Mares Nicholson took 2-53 for TSC who crashed to 45 all out in 14.1 overs.
Ogle was the architect of destruction with 5-6 from 5 overs and got support from his new ball partner Kapil Singh who took 2-24 with his left-arm pace. Off-spinner Raphael Singh took 2-3.
At MSC, Crosse, a former National under-15 Captain, top scored with 42 before lofting at catch to extra cover while off-spinner Gravesande continued to show rapid improvement in his batting with a sold 41 while Sarfraz Esau made 30 as MSC made 226-9 off their allotted 40 overs as Alvin Castello took 4-36, Vickram Ramsundar 2-33 and Michael Forrester 2-45.
Fifteen-year-old Shivanand Roopnarine looked a bright prospect for the future with an attractive 29 before he threw his wicket away with a loose drive to cover off Gravesande and only Castello (23) of the other batsmen offered any fight as Guyana under-15 pacer Keefa Naughton grabbed 3-16 and got support from Vishal Narayan (2-2 from 2 overs) and Gravesande (2-9 from 8 overs).
The competition continues on Friday. (Sean Devers)
