Police were yesterday investigating reports that a Brazilian miner was left badly wounded after gunmen attacked his camp in an area located some three hours from Bartica.
Kaieteur News was told that the miner, identified only as Ivan, was shot in the head and leg during the robbery, which reportedly occurred at around 14:30 hrs yesterday.
However, up to late yesterday evening the wounded man had not been brought out of the area for treatment.
Bartica residents explained that the trail leading to the area is almost impassable, particularly in rainy weather.
It was the second such attack in two days.
On Friday, two gunmen shot mining camp General Manager, Vernon Mc Kenzie, at 14 Miles, Issano, after relieving him of an estimated $2M in raw gold.
Mc Kenzie, who was wounded in the left shoulder, said he survived the attack by pretending to be dead, even as the two masked men searched his pockets.
He is being treated at a city hospital.
