Last week, the United States Southern Command’s Theatre Commander of Activities (TCA), through the State Partnership Program (SPP), sponsored a Cyber Security and Intelligence Conference.
Melba Hernandez, of the U.S. Embassy, Georgetown, and stressed the importance of securing their computer networks.
Members from multiple organizations including from the Guyana Defence Force, Guyana Police Force, Mayor and City Council, Ministry of Health and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
All told 32 Guyanese participated in the forum that was held over three days from December 2.
The material presented included important topics such as identifying vulnerabilities, privacy and encryption, and information on combating cyber warfare.
Lt. Zaporteza of the Florida National Guard also showed participants how to encrypt important data on their computers and to prevent their computers from being attacked by a hacker. Participants shared their challenges and triumphs in the cyber field and indicated that the Conference was a resounding success.
