Christmas is the season of joy and happiness; however the Ishmael family will not be joyous anytime soon since an unfortunate death has gripped the family.
Last Saturday, Shaeed Ishmael, 26 of 117 Grove Squatting Area was crushed to death by a car even as he undertook repair works to the bottom of the vehicle.
According to the dead man’s sister, Nazima Ishmael, it was only after a customer visited the Hope, East Bank Demerara mechanic shop, where her brother worked, that the grisly discovery was made.
The distraught woman said that a customer discovered her brother trapped under the car. The customer had ventured to the back of the workshop where Ishmael was working alone.
She said from all account her brother was trapped for some 15 to 20 minutes beneath the car. She believes that had he been found just after the incident he may have been alive today.
However the woman said that she will not blame anyone for her brother’s demise and believes that fate was just cruel to the family. She said he had been working there for a few months now, and normally executes work of a similar nature.
She believes that the compress jack that was used to suspend the vehicle gave away under the weight of the car trapping her brother in the process.
The woman said soon after the discovery, Shaeed was rushed to the Diamond Hospital in a critical condition and subsequently died. The man’s sister said that he was the baby of the family and that this tragedy has struck the family hard.
She said that although her brother was married, he would visit the family home, where he grew up, on a regular basis. The man was buried yesterday.
