Several of the nation’s top athletes would be in action when the South Turkeyen Sports Committee (STSC), in collaboration with the Queen College Allied Arts department and organizer Johnny Barnwell, stage a relay athletic programme for schools and clubs this Saturday December 12 at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Ground, Thomas lands.
Contestants would be grouped in several categories including boys and girls U-13, U-15, U-17 and Open. Several schools have already signaled an interest in participating including Guyana Technical Institute, Queen College, President’s College, School of the Nation and the Business School.
The competition would also attract top athletics clubs like the Royal Youth Movement, Guyana Defence Force, Police Progressive Youth Club and Running Brave among others. The athletes would compete for trophies and medals donated by several corporate entities.
Meanwhile, the STSC will also host a fund raising walk-a-ton to accrue funds for the Johnny Barnwell Building Fund. Activities get underway on Sunday December 13 next at 08:00hrs. Walkers would trek around Georgetown and are asking for a contribution of $200 per mile.
