A brilliant all-round performance from Berbice Under-15 Shawn Perreira, led his team Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes to first innings points over young Achievers of West Berbice and a place in the semi-finals of the Berbice Tenelec Inc. Under-15 cricket tournament.
Playing at the area ‘H’ ground before a sizable crowd, Young Achievers won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Quacy McPherson and Terron Mc Farley added 23 for the first wicket before McPherson was dismissed via the lbw route to off spinner Loyden Lewis for 13.
Kord Griffith joined Mc Farley and they took the score to 52 when Mc Farley was bowled by off spinner Lenny Sanichara for a well played 25.
Griffith continued to bat well but the rest of the Young Achievers batsmen were unable to cope with the Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes spinners as they were dismissed for 91 off 37 overs. Griffith, who was the seventh batsman to be dismissed, batted well for 40 (3 x 4).
None of the batsmen apart from the top three reached double figures as Loyden Lewis grabbed 3-33, Shawn Perreira 3-28 and thirteen year-old left arm spinner Kumar Madray 3-3 from 4 overs.
In reply, Rose Hall Town F&M found themselves in a deep hole at 13-3 with fast bowlers Clinton Marks and Dillon Joseph bowling well.
Nicholas Cameron 02, Clifford Wong 04 and skipper Loyden Lewis 01 were all back in the pavilion by the eight over and they were soon joined by wicketkeeper/batsman Collis Cort who was bowled by off spinner Tito Grovesnor for 5 to leave the home team reeling at 39-4 at lunch.
The level headed Perreira and Jamal Jarvis, both Berbice Under-15 players along with Lenny Sanichara (15) and Jamal Brusche (31) batted well to eventually see their team to first innings points.
Perreira completed a fine all round performance with a polished 34 while Jarvis hit a patient 24.
Rose Hall Town F&M were finally dismissed for 125 with Toto Grovesnor capturing 5-41 off 15.2 overs and Dillon Joseph 2 for 33.
