The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) held a silent auction at the Victoria Lounge, Pegasus Hotel, yesterday, and displayed a variety of items.
The process requires persons to write their bid, name and telephone number on the relevant paper attached to their bid. The auction lasts until Friday when bidding would be closed at 13:00hours.
According to Nirmala Ramroop, assistant secretary for GRC, the items on display up for auction are electrical items, furniture, glassware, vases, unique pieces, books, jewelry and alcoholic beverages. There was also a cash and carry section that required no bids.
According to Barbara Walrond, treasurer of the GRC, the organisation covers all the ten regions in giving assistance to fire victims, and since lots of money is spent to help fire victims the auction provides a way to raise money to further assist victims.
“We offer immediate assistance; we have a shelter to accommodate any fire victim day or night” Walrond said.
According to Rohina Bonar, welfare convener, anyone that is willing to support GRC can make purchases at the silent auction and if there are persons willing to give donations of cash or kind can visit the head office in Ruimveldt.
