A 55-year-old security guard was found dead at around 19:00 hrs yesterday on the eastern parapet on Cemetery Road, a short distance from his workplace.
Lawrence Singh, an employee of Kalibur Investigative and Security Services, apparently collapsed on the roadway, while heading to an area of Le Repentir Cemetery where excavators are being stored.
Hospital sources said that there were no visible marks of violence on the corpse, which seemed to rule out initial reports that the guard, of Blossom Scheme, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.
The man was still in possession of his cell phone, gold rings and a haversack when he was found.
Kalibur Investigative and Security Services is located in Princes Street, a short distance from where he was found.
Kaieteur News was told that Singh did not report to the office, but was heading to his worksite when he apparently collapsed.
Officials from the security service contacted his family shortly after learning of his demise.
When Kaieteur News arrived at the scene, Singh was still lying on the roadway and some persons were checking his pulse to verify if he was indeed dead.
Some persons claimed that the guard was seen lying on the parapet for about two hours.
Eventually, an ambulance arrived on the scene and the body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was officially pronounced dead.
