– funds to support Archer’s home
Style Mission, Sonia Noel’s charity fashion show which started in December of 2007 is back for yet another year and an evening of great entertainment is promised. Focused on making a meaningful contribution to society it features the creations of Guyanese designers to raise funds for charity.
Single mothers received Christmas hampers from funds raised at the last event and Noel says this year the focus will be on the elderly at the Archer’s home, Durban Street, Wortmanville.
Noel told this publication that the December 10 show will feature various designers’ collections and a Dutch auction as part of efforts to raise much needed funds to make Christmas brighter for senior citizens.
To make this year’s event a reality, Noel has employed the services of the winners of the Guyana Fashion Weekend’s most promising young designers’ award. That line-up includes twin brothers Sean and Shurland James, Marcia Desantos, and the Telford sisters.
Other designs to be showcased will come from Candace Martindale, Lori Ann Jacobs, Shudell Burch-Smith and Sonia Noel.
Some carol singing and Christmas-centred dance showcases are also on the cards.
It is an invitation-only event but fashion enthusiasts will have access to the show by winning passes from internet, television and radio promotions.
The brainchild of Noel, she says this year’s event is focused on raising enough funds to make a senior citizen’s home “more comfortable because seniors have contributed to our society and without them we wouldn’t be here”.
The event will also be used to launch Noel’s ‘Silhouette’ – a boutique that will offer a one-stop shop for collections from Guyana Fashion Weekend designers.
She said her focus will incorporate plus sizes and gents clothing as she continues plans for the next season of Guyana Model Search/Style Designers portfolio. She hints that “the coming season will have a very interesting twist”.
