The Guyana Police Force received high praises after ranks apprehended three armed bandits who had just robbed a Den Amstel resident on Friday night. Angela Austin, of Fellowship, West Coast Demerara, was robbed of a gold chain.
When contacted, Austin told Kaieteur News that she and a friend were heading home when they noticed a parked silver grey Toyota AT 212 motor car in close proximity. The woman said that she wasn’t at the time paying much attention to the vehicle and its occupants. She explained that it was only after two men exited the car that she and her companion became suspicious.
Austin said that she was confronted by the two men, one of whom snatched her gold chain.
She related that passersby heard her screams and came to her assistance shortly after, but the men had already left the area. Several persons accompanied her to the Dem Amstel police station where a report was made.
Austin recounted that the officers quickly alerted other stations. Consequently, road blocks were set up at strategic points and the bandits were nabbed at Vreed-en-Hoop on the West Coast of Demerara.
Austin said that she was summoned to the police station yesterday morning where she identified the gold chain.
According to a police press release, a search was conducted on motor car PLL 8431 and the gold chain which was stolen from Austin was found on one of the bandit’s person. The three male occupants of the vehicle were promptly arrested and taken into custody. They are assisting with investigations and are expected to be charged shortly. Austin said that she was thankful for the quick response by the police.
