Top seeds of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will convene this morning at the pavilion of the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda to engage in the Eid-ul Adha Open championships.
Already speculation is rife as most of the top seeds would be vying for top honours.
Indeed, the old master, Ulric Harris has signaled a return to form following his scintillating victory in the recently staged Auto Tech sponsored tournament some two weeks ago.
He had defeated a field of competent players the likes of Moen Gafoor, Fred Collins and James Krakowsky among others.
He will obviously attempt to replicate that form.
The old master may not find the going easy especially when one considers that most of the players have been involved in intense practice sessions and may be on top of their game.
Then there are the young players that have been playing so intensely that the disparity between the seasoned contenders has been narrowed considerably.
Those players include the much improved bankers Maurice Munroe, and multi talented sportsman Paul Adams who is also a national powerlifter.
Add female contenders the likes of Lindener, Grace Hercules, Ruby Cummings and Yvonne Murray and a truly competitive tournament is envisaged.
Players are reminded that the GASP executives are very rigid with the starting time. The registration period commences at 09:30hrs and the tournament gets underway at 10:00hrs. Players arriving late would be penalized as GASP is determined to set high standards for all tournaments falling under its auspices.
