A Jaguar struck with deadly effect, killing a 43-year-old miner of Aishalton early yesterday morning.
Kurt Rodrigues died on his way to the Aishalton Hospital after he was mauled by the dangerous feline while he was walking along a trail at Marudi Mountains in the Rupununi.
Kaieteur News understands that Rodrigues, a pork knocker, had left his camp about 05:30 hours to fetch water from a nearby stream when he was attacked by the Jaguar.
Rodrigues was later discovered in a critical condition by his workmates who tried to rush him to the Aishalton hospital some 30 miles away.
However, by the time they arrived at the hospital it was too late. According to reports, there were earlier signs that a jaguar was lurking in the area after miners observed its tracks.
Rodrigues’ co-workers are convinced that the animal had killed him since they saw similar tracks leading from the spot where his badly mutilated body was found. Police are investigating the incident.
