Reliance Warriors, Golden Fleece, Affiance SC and Airy Hall SC, all recorded wins when the Essequibo Zone of the National Softball cricket tournament continued recently.
The Reliance Warriors Sports Club defeated Pomena Scheme Sports Club by 36 runs at the El Dorado Ground, Essequibo.
Reliance Warriors batted first and scored 138 all out in 15 overs with Shivanandan Madholall scoring the most runs (39).
In reply Pomena Scheme SC was limited to 102 all out in 14.5 overs. Shivanandan Madholall (3-16 from 3 overs) was the chief wicket taker.
Affiance SC then defeated Rebel XI by 24 runs.
The eventual winners won the toss and elected to take first strike. They amassed 142-5 in 15 overs with Ganesh Mangal (36) lashing the most runs. Norman Federicks (3-24 from 3 overs) was the pick of the bowlers.
Latchman Rohit (3-21 from 3 overs) then took the bowling honours, limiting Rebel XI to 118 in 14 overs.
Over at the Suddie Ground, Golden Fleece SC defeated El Dorado by 5 wickets after the latter team won the toss and batted.
They compiled 145-4 in 15 overs with Mukesh Gobin (21) and Indar Rampersaud (20), top scoring.
In reply Golden Fleece made 147-5 in 11 overs after Jairam Singh struck a resilient 34.
Ramdass Rampersaud restricted the losing team to their eventual total with complimentary figures of 2-24 from 3 overs.
Airy Hall SC then defeated Reliance “B” by 5 wickets. The latter team batted first and scored 91 all out in 15 overs (Ram Sankar 2-5 from 3 overs) took the bowling honours. In reply Airy Hall SC raced to 92-3 from 10 overs after Ganesh Persaud hit an unbeaten 44. He received support from Sunil Bissoon (22).
The tournament continued last weekend with several East Coast zone matches, West Coast; Linden and East Bank Zone.
